Fine Art Wildlife Photography Print by multi-award winning photographer Sam Turley - Elephant
Location: Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservancy, Zimbabwe
Description: At forty-three years old, Makhavusi has been at Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservancy for most of his life. He was orphaned from a cull in Hwange’s national park where, due to the over population of elephants, whole herds were killed and any young calves in the herd were destined to be sold to zoos. Mak was one of the lucky orphans who rather than getting sent to a zoo, was intercepted, and sent to a sanctuary instead.
After such a traumatic start to life, it would not be a surprise if Mak wanted nothing more to do with people and became a “problematic” animal. However quite the opposite is true.
Mak is visited by thousands of people each year and he truly thrives in the company of people. Almost everybody that spends time with Mak comments on his unbelievable temperament. I hope that this image portrays how a lot of people feel about this incredibly special elephant.
A true Gentle Giant.
